It’s wonderful to see the photographers on Maui come together in such a few short months. The Maui SmugMug group now has over 70 members! This month’s SmugMug meeting was held at Haz Beanz Coffee, one of my favorite coffee shops on Maui. Joshua, the owner of Hawaii Photo Rental, was kind enough to fly in from Oahu to speak about the new camera rental company in town. Hawaii Photo Rental is now on Maui and has tons of gear available for rent, from camera bodies, lighting equipment to a huge assortment of great lenses at very reasonable prices. Josh explained to us the ease of renting and trying new equipment and in addition he brought $80,000 worth of gear for us to play with. We practiced taking head shots of each other, which is always a lot of fun with all the dynamic personalities in the group.
It is always rare to have a high caliber workshop that comes to Hawaii, and we are lucky that the Making Things Happen workshop is doing just that….Lara Casey, Fred Egan and Jory Cordy are coming to Maui November 16th & 17th for a 2-day intensive workshop! I had the opportunity to meet with Lara Casey for a Making Things Happen one-on-one in Oahu a few months ago and from that short 2 hour meeting, she completely shifted my thoughts about photography and provided me with tools (and homework) to improve my business. I’ve actually received quite a few emails from friends of mine that are going to be making it to the Maui workshop. Three seats left, get them while you can.
Also a big thank you to Southern Weddings Magazine for sponsoring us by graciously shipping over boxes of the magazine for the photographers in the group. Living in Hawaii, Southern Weddings Magazine is not carried at Borders or Barnes and Noble, which is such a pity since the wedding photography in the magazine is some of the best I’ve seen. Mahalo to the lovely ladies at Southern Weddings Magazine!
Thank you Kim Aihara who took the candid photos. If you’d like to register for the group & hear about upcoming Maui SmugMug meetings & events click HERE.
